Welcome to Unicorn Class!

A very warm welcome to Unicorn Class! We are looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, discovery and fun with Mrs Goldup, Mrs Barden and Mrs Craig.

​

Throughout Key Stage 1, children will continue to build on the skills they have developed while exploring an exciting and engaging curriculum. We aim to inspire curiosity, encourage independence and help every child reach their full potential.

Our learning this year

 

This year, we will explore a range of exciting topics, including:

• What makes the United Kingdom an amazing place to explore: Exploring the countries, capital cities, landmarks and physical features of the United Kingdom to discover what makes it unique and special.

• What legacy have the Wright Brothers left behind: Exploring the achievements of the Wright Brothers and how their invention of the first successful powered aeroplane changed travel, transport and the modern world.

• Who was the most successful inventor, Brunel or Stevenson: Comparing the achievements of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and George Stephenson to explore how their engineering innovations changed transport and shaped the modern world.

 

Our learning is brought to life through practical activities, investigations and creative experiences, making each topic enjoyable and memorable.

Alongside our topic work, children will continue to develop their confidence and independence in reading, writing and mathematics, building on the strong foundations established in Reception and Year 1.
