Wellbeing
At Long Mead we support children's health, wellbeing and mental health needs alongside the curriculum we provide. Children have access to a wide range of support within our school including weekly mindfulness sessions from an experienced mindfulness coach, a dedicated Wellbeing Learning Support Assistant, use of the Launchpad for re-regulation and support as well as a range of services from external agencies.
Mindfulness In Schools Project
Mindfulness helps train your attention to be more aware of what is actually happening, rather than worrying about what has happened or might happen. We learn to bring greater curiosity to whatever it is we experience.
Here at Long Mead, your child will be learning about mindfulness once a week as part of the wellbeing curriculum through the programmes ‘Dots’ and 'Paws.b' from The Mindfulness in Schools Project. Children in Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 will be exploring mindfulness through the ‘Dots’ programme and Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 will be exploring mindfulness through 'Paws.b' programme.
Why Do It?
During the course the children will be learning about many things, including:

•Skills for greater happiness and well-being.
•Strategies for relaxing and finding peace and calm.
•Helping coping strategies for stress, anxiety and every day worries.
•Better focus - supporting learning, behaviour, performance and decision making.
•Improved relationships with peers, teachers and family.
•Understanding of one's own mind and what makes for a happy, healthy person.
