The Long Mead Foundation Stage Unit we are able to accommodate all children from 3 to 5 years of age. Long Mead is also one of the few schools in Kent who are able to accept children into the pre-school class at the start of the term in which they become 3. Please see the Admissions Page of this website for details.

The children in the nursery class are taught by Mrs Hooper (class teacher/Bright Stars Principal), Miss  Spatchett (Bright Stars Leader), Miss Webster(class teacher), Miss Dann and Mrs Beel.

We are delighted to offer a broad and balanced early years curriculum in a warm and friendly atmosphere.  All the children in the foundation stage will be following the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum which encompasses learning and development in seven main areas.

The prime areas are fundamental and support learning and development in all other areas. The three prime areas are:

  • Personal, social and emotional development

  • Communication and language

  • Physical development

The specific areas include essential knowledge and skills, these are:

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding of the world

  • Expressive arts and design

The activities and experiences we provide will enable the children to develop in these seven areas in a happy, safe and playful environment.

The classroom is a bright airy space with lots of fantastic displays and stimulating resources, the children also have access to a wonderful outdoor area, which has been widely praised by educational advisors. The children are taught to respect themselves and others and to be well mannered and kind.

The staff in Long Mead Foundation Unit are happy, enthusiastic and keen to create a safe and supportive environment for your child. Our approach to learning is playful, stimulating and inspiring. It is the right of all children to learn to love learning and have a positive school experience enabling them to reach their full potential.
