What Woodpecker class will be learning...

This term our topic is 'Animals and Plants'.

Throughout this term we will be approaching all subjects in a cross curricular way with the topic.

There will be a trip to Hadlow College where children will explore pond dipping and observing the creatures fished out from the water. Furthermore, they will visit a range of animals from domestic to wild animals including lizards and Rainforest frogs.

In Literacy, we will be focusing on Non-Fiction aspects like Instructions and Labelling. Poetry is also in the agenda and we will be looking at different type of poems and rhyming.

In Numeracy, we will be counting to/from 20 or more using a variety of strategies and apparatus like number lines, dice, number games, online games and number square to mention a few. Money will also be introduced. Children will learn to collect data and represent it in charts. Addition and Subtraction will continue to be practised on a daily basis. Mental maths is another aspect of Numeracy that we will focus on.

In Science, we will be looking at categorising animals and recognise whether they are domestic or wild. We will learn about animal and plant life cycles and we will plant our own cress!

In ICT, children will play with Bee Bots to learn directions but we will also have fun looking after a dog!

In PE, we will practise Athletics for our Sports Day and after we will learn to use our bodies to mimic how animals move.
